Seven Simple Self-Care Practices You Need to Try

In case the madness of the world around you has made you believe otherwise, here’s your reminder that you are important. From time to time, we let this notion slip away, but it is our responsibility to take good care of ourselves and know when to take a step back if the noise of the world gets too loud. In order to do so, the Bella Beauty NYC team has created a list of some very simple, but very beneficial, self-care practices that shift the focus over to you and your well-being. Just by taking a few minutes out of your day to take these steps, you will notice a measurable difference.

  1. Find a good playlist, turn up the volume, and dance. Although it may sound silly, research has proven the many wonderful benefits of good music. If you find yourself feeling stressed or anxious throughout the day, turn on your favorite tunes and let yourself have some fun. This one is a guaranteed mood-booster.

  2. Stay active. Sometimes, society frames exercise in a negative light, but being active does not have to be about accomplishing specific goals. Although those can be great, things as simple as a walk around the block are enough to get your blood pumping and the oxygen flowing, allowing both your body and mind to feel refreshed.

  3. Put away your phone. For some, this tip may sound impossible. However, sometimes all we need is a little time to disconnect from the virtual world in order to really tune in with ourselves and how we are feeling. By making an effort to live in the present, you will feel like a weight of stress has been lifted off your shoulders.

  4. Prioritize rest. Having the mentality of a go-getter is amazing, but we are all human and cannot always get everything done. Don’t beat yourself up and stay up late trying to finish everything on your to-do list. Resting is of high importance and something you need in order to get all that you want done.

  5. Journaling. When life gets a little too hectic, taking a step back to write out your thoughts can be incredibly therapeutic. Think of it as a brain dump—set an alarm for 5-10 minutes and spend that time simply addressing your thoughts. It is crazy how much better you will feel on the flip side.

  6. Meditate. I know this isn’t for everyone, but it does not have to be as traditional as you may think. Although traditional meditations are great and definitely something to try if you are open to it, sometimes just a few deep breaths is all we need to resettle back into ourselves. You will leave your “mini-meditation” feeling calmer and more balanced, ready to continue on and tackle the day.

  7. Do the things you love. You do not need to be everyone’s hero. It is okay to say no to other people's requests, and take time doing the things you love. Whether that be baking, reading, exercising, watching movies, or more, do what makes you happy. You will be better off for it.

We are all living in our own crazy worlds, but when the crazy becomes too much to handle, enjoy these seven simple self-care hacks that will rebalance your spirits and leave you feeling better than ever before.
